Welcome to NYEC 2012!
Hi there!
Singapore’s largest environmental event for youths, the National Youth EnvirOlympics Challenge (NYEC) is back! Co-organised by Youth EnvirOlympics Council and Ci Yuan Community Centre Youth Executive Committee, NYEC has been well received over the years, with thousands of people participating in the challenge and gain deeper awareness of our environment.
NYEC challenge aims to increase awareness of the environmental concerns in our country. It provides a fun and interactive platform to educate the youths and the members of the public on the importance of being eco-conscious and leading a environmental-friendly lifestyle. Through this challenge, we hope to inspire more youths to gain environmental ownership, creating a greener and cleaner environment.
Into its fourth year, the NYEC 2012 – Clean It Yourself Day will be held on 21st and 28th of April 2012. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be gracing this event as our Guest of Honour. (to be confirmed) This year’s theme revolves around championing ownership of our own environment.
This idea actually originated from a group of youths in the brainstorming session of Keep Singapore Beautiful Movement Forum that took place just a few months ago. We believe that by engaging the youths in initiating green acts, they will feel that their opinions are valued and will thus be more inclined to do more for the environment.
NYEC 2012 will include an array of FUN-FILLED activities that targets all segments of the society!
As an opening ceremony of NYEC 2012, we will challenge ourselves to set a new World’s record on Saturday, 21st April 2012! Hence, “The Great EnviRondure”, is a Guinness World Record challenge to build the largest sculpture made of recycled plastic bags, to raise awareness about the massive amount of plastic bags we use and to stop the wastage of them.
A Beautiful Merci (Movement for Encouragement and Recognition of our Cleaners Inputs) is a movement to thank our cleaners for their hardwork! As the theme for NYEC 2012 is to inculcate personal responsiblity for a Clean and Green evironment, we will be introducing an exclusive programme acknowledge efforts of our cleaners in maintaining the cleanliness of our common areas. 3) challenges at different stations around Singapore.
On Saturday, 28th April 2012, our main highlight of NYEC, the En-mazing Race will be held islandwide!
